Hi,

I'm researching for suitable file indexing services to support document searching (business setting). The machine running FreeNAS has plenty of grunt that is not being used so the service would likely be running on the same machine inside a jail.

My question is, can anyone - if they've had any experiences in this area - make suggestions on where to start looking.

The two main qualities im looking for are:
  • The service can be access through a web interface
  • Capable of index all windows office formats, pdf, pst, html, etc etc
  • Ideally open source

Thanks for any insights/advice :)

employ a separate boxfor this task.
freenas has a webserver dedicated to it's management, and it's role as dedicated fileserver is
disturbed by doing "other kinds of tasks"

If you insist using the same hardware i suggest you load it with a fullblown freebsd distro
where several indexing apps is avaliable in ports
