Goodmorning,

one of my FreeNAS sent me an alert about error of data corruption into boot volume.

With command

zpool status -v

pool: freenas-boot
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data
corruption. Applications may be affected.
action: Restore the file in question if possible. Otherwise restore the
entire pool from backup.
see: http://illumos.org/msg/ZFS-8000-8A
scan: scrub repaired 2.50K in 0h1m with 3 errors on Thu Mar 9 03:46:53 2017
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
freenas-boot ONLINE 0 0 3
da0p2 ONLINE 0 0 6

errors: Permanent errors have been detected in the following files:

freenas-boot/ROOT/default@2016-08-01-04:55:02:/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.20/JSON/PP.pm
freenas-boot/ROOT/default@2016-08-01-04:55:02:/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.20/Locale/Codes/Language_Codes.pm
freenas-boot/ROOT/default@2016-08-01-04:55:02:/usr/local/lib/nss/libnssckbi.so.1

My questions are:
Can I copy these three files from a new fresh installation of the same version of FreeNAS (FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201606270534)?
In this specific case, I have another identically FreeNAS where I do replica tasks, Can I copy the three files from this last?
This three files what are they for?

Thanks in advance

The USB stick is most likely failing. However, nothing serious has been damaged yet.

You will need to get a new boot USB stick, preferably one from the manual that is recommended for FreeNAS use.

You can then upgrade to a mirror. Those damaged files will still be damaged, but they are not important because they are in an old snapshot.

Or, you can do a re-install. You will need to backup your configuration, do a new install to the new stick, and then restore your configuration. Discard the old stick.

Thanks rs225 for the answer.
I don't understand why you talk about old snapshot...
I did not set snapshot for the boot partition, is an automatic task?
Also i did never update the FreeNAS OS since the original installation.
Please, can you explain me about old snapshot for the boot partition?

Very thanks

I don't know why the snapshot is there; maybe someone else can answer.

For now, make a backup of your configuration, or work on upgrading the boot partition to a mirror.
