Hi,
I’ve been looking at some items for a future build
This is for sharing 16To of audio and video files to 8 users over SMB in an OS X environment for a post production studio .

1) Supermicro cse826/ x9DRi-F /64 ram/2*e5-2640

2) Chelsio T420-cx

3) LSI sas9201-8i

4) 5x IronWolf 8to in Z2 configuration

5) Netgear switch GSM7328s

I just need to share files. I was actually thinking of getting all these items twice to have a backup in a different location.
I will need to use ldap to import users and set permissions and eventually try to figure out if I can use FFmpeg in a jail to encode imported video .
Can all this FreeNAS nicely?

Thanks

That should all more than FreeNAS nicely.

If you're only doing five or six SATA drives per server, you don't need the LSI controller. However, I'm not 100% if the backplane in that chassis can be hooked up to a SATA controller. That's something I would recommend doing further research on before buying.

Based on your 16TB requirement, I would recommend 6x drives. That way you're starting around 50% utilization.

I'm not sure I would recommend that switch. I don't have any direct experience with that particular model, but I have had quite a few problems with Netgear stuff. It works very well for home use, but it just doesn't stand up well for enterprise use, especially heavy use.

Cisco is reliable. I have one of the 24 port models and it has been doing everything I need for five years. The model I have is discontinued now, but all their gear is good.
