Hi 9C1 Newbee
Thanks for your response!
Now that is something that never came to my mind. The WD, at this stage, is not connected to any external HDD and it doesn't have an internal HDD of it own. It is only connected to this old PC that is serving as the FreeNAS server - this PC has the FreeNAS running off an USB drive and has an internal HDD which contains my media files. Both the WD and this PC are connected to my home network through the same switch (although I do have a few other switches as well).
Given that the WD can see the FreeNAS drive - I mean the MediaServer/the source Media Directory that was specified with the given 'Friendly Name' of "DLNAMedia" and all three folders inside of this folder called 'Photos', 'Movies' and 'Music' that contain my media files, I am assuming here that if must be via CIFS, wouldn't it?
Further,
And look, I genuinely want to build a solution rather than just buy a ready made solution - that is why I am going through this learning - and its painful. I have no issues spending as much time as is necessary because I want to do things on my own rather just buy solutions for anything and everything. I am just not able to put a finger on what is causing this issue - I can only fix the issue if I know what the issue is, isn't it?
The unusual thing is that my Panasonic TV's (TH-P50VT20A - supposed to DLNA certified) whilst its able to see the volume - the MediaServer (the source Media Directory that was specified on FreeNAS with the given 'Friendly Name' of "DLNAMedia" - it doesn't show any folders inside this directory - there are three folders inside of this folder called 'Photos', 'Movies' and 'Music'! What I mean is - when I select the "AV" as the source on my TV and choose "Media Server", it does see "DLNAMedia" but nothing when I browse this "DLNAMedia" source.
Moreover, if I were to delete this volume, the share and the MiniDLNA plugin and redo the whole thing, I am sure my TV will see this drive again - as it did the first time around. But when I updated this drive/folder, it just became invisible to it.
Sorry about this post being so long but I thought I need to give you as much information as possible. Not sure if this gives you any more clues but this is where it is at! Looking forward to hearing from you again!
Deepak

So when you say you can stream with the WD box, you are absolutely sure it is not via CIFS or NFS?

I can tell you are getting pissed and discouraged. LOL Take a breath. FreeNAS is something you will have to research to use. If you like to tinker, FreeNAS is for you. If you just prefer to just simply buy a solution there are some good options out there. Even my WDTV Live Hub can stream DLNA content. Plug in an external hard drive and BAM, done! My router can stream DLNA content as well. But I want MOAR. I also like to tinker with stuff. Pro's and con's to each. Only you know what is right for you.
