Want a compact 12-16 drive case that will fit nicely on my book shelf, but none exist. Rackmount 4U too big for me. Closest thing is a synology/qnap enclosure.

Drafted a layout to build my own enclosure using 5in3 hotswap cages. Maybe with aluminum extrusion t-slot tubes which can make adding more cages modular?

What are your thoughts on building material and/or ways to make it more compact?

The challenge will be proper airflow due to the cabling needed for the power and SAS connection for 20 drives.

My jam packed silverstone ds380 handles air flow fine.

Think my layout has plenty of room in the middle gap for cable routing. SAS breakout cables minimize clutter too.
