Hello,

I got an error on the FreeNAS (Red Alert).

CRITICAL: Device: /dev/ada4, 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors
CRITICAL: Device: /dev/ada4, 1 Offline uncorrectable sectors

1 bad sectors is not that bad, but I had two replacement drive (Western Digital RE4 1TB), so I changed the drive, wait for the zfs resilvering and it still show the ada4 error. So I changed it again, with the 2nd spare, thinking it could just be an DOA drive... and now I have the same error (it's been more than 12 hours now).

So, today, I started a "smartctl -t long /dev/ada4". I'm waiting on it to finish (in about 2 hours), but is there something else I need/should do? Seems like a false report to me. I searching a lot on Google but could not found anything releated to that.

It's probably just the error from the first drive that wasn't cleared.

That's what I'm thinking too, but how do I clear it ?

I already tried to reboot. I have an update to apply, this might clear it.
edit: Yeah, but when I rebooted, the bad drive was still there... so must not be that.

I searched again a bit and found that it should clear when the log reach 1000 lines. Not sure witch log, I wish I could clear it.

What do you mean by "the bad drive was still there"?

I rebooted the FreeNAS, but this was before I replace the drive... so it dosent really apply! :)

I will re-try a reboot soon, to apply the update.

Ok, don't worry and just wait a bit for the error to clear itself ;)

Yeah, thanks a lot.

I rebooted to install the update and now the error is gone, so it's all fine ! :)

Just for information to those who read here, I notice that when you replace a disk, he's not selected anymore in the "SMART Short Test" schedule. So be sure to re-add it.
