Hey guys,
I have just setup Freenas on a N40L and when I enable samba there is constant write access to the pool. See below.

If I disable it, it goes back to the base levels of 30k or so once a minute as seems to be accepted as the norm for the system dataset etc.

Any ideas why this might be? Specs below

HP N40L
8Gb Ram
4x 2TB WD RED in ZFS Mirror
Intel PCIe Network Card (not using onboard realtek).

Could be an application on the client connecting to your NAS (antivirus?).

Well, the fact that you have no shares could be tripping up Samba (why run a service with no shares?) and its logging crazy errors constantly that are going to the disk's .system dataset. That's my first guess.

Seems crazy high for logs, but we've seen stranger things coming from Samba.

No I had shares, then removed them, Still that activity, then removed the samba service all together and it stopped. I looked in the log files only writing a few line every day.

See. Been around the block with Samba lately. ;)

Samba is quite the slut.
