Anandtech has an article comparing the Cavium ThunderX ARM processor with a number of established Intel Xeons: Several Xeon-D models, a Xeon E5 v3 and a Xeon E5 v4

Quick summary:
  • 1/3 of Xeon-D's singlethreaded integer performance
  • TDP comparable to average Xeon E5 parts
  • Memory bandwidth comparable to Xeon E5, as expected
  • Performance varies from being competitive to Xeon-D to being faster than Xeon E5, depending on the benchmark
  • Atrocious idle power
  • Power consumption when loaded is very unspectacular

It's like a Cardassian detective novel. You know exactly what happens at the end (everybody is guilty, or, in this case, this is not going to seriously compete with Xeon), but the fun part is figuring out how and why.
