Hello All,

I was pointed toward FreeNAS as a possible vSphere storage appliance alternative. I have several ESXi servers that use local storage, the disks have quite a bit of free space on them and I wanted to take portions of the local disk/datastores on each server and pool them into a giant volume for shared storage. I was reading through the user manual I was able get my freenas server up and running and present some NFS storage to a few servers using storage provided by the ESXi server the FreeNAS vm was sitting on however I was still unsure of how to reach out to separate servers and take a chunk of that disk and add that to my freenas vm and was unable to find anything in the manual. Would I need to create a freenas vm (or any NFS/iscsi server in that case) on every esxi server and have them all point to a single freenas box? My apologies if this is a stupid question / not possible / doing it wrong. :(

Thank you for your time.
