I put you in situation of what we have mounted in order to see the best possible solution.
We have installed several Proxmox servers. For storage we connect to a FreeNAS through iSCSI which in turn has the disks in a storage cabin since this one does not have native iSCSI.
Our weak point is in the FreeNAS because if it fails the servers are unable to access the storage. Therefore, the ZFS configuration of the storage box disks are in this FreeNAS.
We wanted to prepare a second FreeNAS so that in case of failure it would only be necessary to replace one by another but I fear that the configuration of the RAIDZ would be lost and the information would be lost.
Is there any way we can have a second FreeNAS backup without fear of losing the data in the storage box?
