Hi all,
So i currently have a 4 disk pool with 2 shares on it.
My plan is to add an extra drive in a hot swap bay and have the pool clone to it once a month if this is possible?
The hot swap drive will then be removed and replaced with another one so i rotate 3 disks.
Is this something i should do with rsync or is there an easier method?

It would probably be a job for ZFS send and receive. We have had a bunch of people do this before. It is absolutely doable. I will take a look around and see if I can find a guide. It is a very fast method, especially once there is data on the target disk because it can just copy over the newer information by time stamp instead of needing to look at all the files the way rsync does it.

I wrote a local disk backup guide years ago. Still use it.
Here is a link:

How to backup to local disks

It's not designed as a plug and play. All backups are custom per the hardware, software and needs of the user. It is however a good example for others interesting in implementing local disk backups.
