Hi Community!

This is my first post here. I want to change my primary NAS and move my data from my old Synology 216+ (2bay, RAID1, 2x3TB)

The new NAS Hardware:
  • Motherboard & CPU: Topton N6005 Mini ITX board 4x2,5GB LAN, 2XNVMe, 6xSATA
  • RAM: Kingston Fury DDR4 2x32GB@2666MHz CL16
  • SSD: 2TB Seagate BarraCuda - system
  • HDD: 3x20TB Seagate Exos X20 HDD (RAIDz1) - data - not yet connected
  • PSU: EVGA SuperNova GM 650W
  • Case: JONSBO N1 case

That's what I've been doing so far, and I think the problem is a not supported hardware (GPU?).
  • Downloaded ISO: TrueNAS-SCALE-23.10.0.1.iso
  • Wrote ISO to a 8GB USB stick using RUFUS 4.3 (MBR/FAT32/DD)
  • Installation successful - USB removed and reboot
  • All attempts end here with different blinking color screen sometimes auto reboot, sometimes complete freeze, but no error line (see attached pics or video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD9TcxS_7J0
  • No network and other HDD connected
  • I tried install 3 or 4 times with rewrited USB.
  • I tried with 2 different monitor and 2 diff. connection hdmi, displayport
  • I modified in the BIOS mainly Graphics Configuration
Thanks in advance!

Hello,

First post here as well! I'm getting started into home servers.

I have the exact same issue as you, fresh install leading to a flashing / blinking screen!

My setup (similar motherboard by the way):
I tried pretty much what you did + also tested different versions but it didn't solve the problem:
I also tried accessing the recovery mode, but it says login incorrect when entering the password setup during install.

Hope someone can help!

Hello @Ch4os I solved the issue on my side: it was RAM frequency issue. I was also using 2666MHz ram. Tried with some spare 2133 MHz and 3200 MHz and it worked like a charm! Hopefully that is the same issue for you here.

Note: I tried to manually set the RAM frequency from auto to fixed value in the bios, did not work.

Hi @Atlas0400!
Could you tell me the exact type and the timing of your memory?
As I read forums, I saw everybody use memory with CL22. You tried unsuccessfully with CL19 and I also unsuccessfully with CL16 and CL20.

So i think i have to buy a "slow" memory with CL22.

A modified almost everything in BIOS but cannot setup the memory config (freq, timing).

Hi @Ch4os here are more details:

- KO: 2666MHz / 16Go / CL19 (new, returned it)
- OK: 2133 MHz / 8Go / not sure of class, maybe CL17 (second hand)
- OK: 3200 MHz / 16Go / CL22 (from my laptop, ordered 2 new ones)

I tried to contact the motherboard seller to get more details on compatibility, I'll let you know if I have some news (in case it also applies to your motherboard).

Hi @Atlas0400!
The problem was the same. The 3rd memory worked like a charm!

- NOT OK: Kingston FURY SO-DIMM 64GB KIT (2x32GB) DDR4 2666MHz CL16 Impact - KF426S16IBK2/64
- NOT OK: Kingston FURY SO-DIMM 64GB KIT (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL20 Impact - KF432S20IBK2/64
- OK: MUSHKIN 64GB (2x32GB) Redline Notebook DDR4 3200MHz CL22 KIT - MRA4S320NNNF32GX2

Solution: Buy memory with CL22.
