Hi all,

I am new to FreeNAS. Currently, our FreeNAS has 2 hard drive disks. One is entirely used for OS and the other one is entirely used for storage.

We are thinking about adding another disk to be used for storage. How can add this new disk to storage volume?

Appreciate the help!

Currently, you have no redundancy in your pool (volume). Should it fail, all the data is lost. If, you stripe in another disk and either one of them fail, all is lost.

At a minimum, I'd use mirrors in your environment. If one disk failed, data should still be accessible on the other disk. One can't change your single disk to a mirror from the webGUI, but one can do it via the CLI. You'd have to search the forums for a howto.

Once you have your first set of mirrors, you could use volume manager to add another set of mirrors to your existing volume.

Note: most users, use either a small SSD (~16GB) or flash drive to hold the FreeNAS OS.
