Hi I have for a long time a wonderfully robust working FreeNas on my pc running Ubuntu 10.04.

I can access all my drives and the web interface. (user and passwords were stored at installation)

I have just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a separate partition and discovered I cannot remember my share names and passwords Etc.

Any advice would be appreciated, can I recover them via my access on the Ubuntu 10.04 partition.

With a sheet of paper and several dozen attempts I've worked out my password.

But for interest is there a way of extracting the password from a working connection?

You could log into the GUI and reset the password of the applicable account....

Not sure what you are asking.
