Please help me out....
I installed FreeNAS from CD to my PenDrive (4 GB).
Now I wanted to remove FreeNAS and make my pendrive free.
For that i formatted it from windows 8...
Now it is only showing 935 MB of total memory.
Even on booting FreeNAS, it is showing error OS not found..

How can I format my pen drive completely to make it 4 GB...

Please help me, i am very frustrated about it.

You will need to delete all of the partitions(4 of them) from the thumbdrive. I have zero clue how you do it on Windows 8. On windows 7 you can delete the partitions from Administrator Tools -> Computer Management. Then simply delete the partitions from the thumbdrive. Optionally you can also use the diskpart command in Windows. Warning: Be VERY careful with playing with partitions. If you delete the wrong one you can wipe out all data on a drive in seconds.

I'm sorry, I can't help with Windows 8. :(

I refuse to ever use that piece of junk on one of my machines and I'm learning Linux so I can get away from the ball and chain(Microshaft).

Cancel the formatting.

Open a RUN command prompt (Hold Windows Key and press R)

Type diskmgmt.msc

Select the flash drive and delete any partitions

Now format it.

I'm not sure if the run command exists in Windows 8. I had heard it was gone without some registry tweak(metro rocks!) but I'm not sure since I have no personal experience with 8(thank god!).

It's still there, at least in the Pro version. I think Win 8 is a joke, but I couldn't resist getting the pre-release for $40 since I support a variety of people/systems.

I just learned that you can bring up a Power Users Menu by doing:

Pressing the Windows and X keys together to bring up the menu, then click on the Disk Management shortcut.

You don't want to combine them, you want to delete them. After you delete them it will be one complete disk. Delete that last "Primary Partition" and you should be good to go.

Hmmm, Windows can be a pain in the ass sometimes. There's Unix command called "DD" which is good for doing this type of thing. I found a Windows version here:

http://www.chrysocome.net/dd

The command you would use would look like the one below except you will need to change the of=/dev/ada3 part to the name of the flash disk you will find by doing dd --list first. So replace /dev/ada3 with that, but keep the rest of the command. Make CERTAIN you pick the correct device/disk from "dd --list" or you could wipe your system disk or another by mistake.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ada3 bs=1m count=1

EDIT: You'll do all of this from a DOS prompt, no GUI.

Ok, I poked around online and found that you can't delete the primary partition ( the 900mb one) because it is a bootartition. This might be our problem.

I have got the solution.
I deleted the partition using command prompt, and create a new partition using Partition Manager.
Now every thing is fine and I have retrieved my Pen Drived back to 4 GB.
Thanks for your all support.

Awesome! I just figured it out also. I used partition wizard. I had to repartition because my installation of FreeNas was broken. After I fixed the partition issue I reinstalled FreeNas on my flash drive. I now have a working FreeNas machine XD
