Hey guys, so i bit the bullet and decided to switch from OMV.
I have purchased an X11SCL-IF with 16GB DDR4-2666 ECC memory for it.

I need some help with CPU selection advice.
I have a U-NAS NSC400 case with a 250W PSU. It will be fully populated with 4x SATA 6 drives and an SSD internally.
It's a very tight squize already for the existing Asrock E351M board with APU, so size of heatsinking and power consumption is going to be critical i guess.

Main use is for file storage and household media serving with potentially 2-3 HD streams at the same time. (not sure whether to move from plex to embry)
Additionally, it will run zoneminder and clamav.

Would appreciate advice of which of the CPUs from the series would be best suited for the purpose.
Obviously doesn't need GPU but i would expect AES-NI would be required

8th/9th Generation Intel® Core i3/Pentium®/Celeron® Processor
Intel® Xeon® E-2100 Processor
Intel® Xeon® E-2200 Processor

appreciate your input

what i got was;
- X11SCL-IF + Xeon E2234 + PHS (2400) and Samsung (2666)

Lost 3 weeks of my time trying to get it to work.
Sent the Samsung memory back when the unit reported no memory detected.
Now the PHS memory isn't detected either

Bios reports 2F (memory problem) on bottom right corner and gives the 5 short 1 long beeps (with or without memory in the board).

First and last time i will buy a supermicro system again. quick google and it is littered with people who can't get memory detected.

According to the X11SCL-IF specs, it is supposed to support E2100/E2200 series processors.

Looking at the specs sheets from Intel,
E2134 - compatible products are C242 & C246 chipsets
E2234 - compatible products are C246 chipsets

seems to me, the E-2200 series is not compatible according to intel.

@gwaitsi What is the exact memory you used? I just built a system with this board, but with an i3-9100f - no problems. But, I did make sure the BIOS on it was above 1.0b before putting it together.

my h/w version was 1.01 and according to supermicro based on the s/n i had v1.3 bios (you can't see the bios version if memory is not recognized)

Warning for all:
the cpu cover says to replace it if no cpu to protect the pins. i f@cked the pins trying to put the cover back and still didn't managed to do it.

total disaster...

memory i used first was
- Samsung 8GB DDR4 PC4-21300 2666MHz 288-pin UDIMM ECC Unbuffered (M391A1K43BB2-CT)
- PHS 8GB RAM Speicher für Supermicro X 11SCL-IF DDR4 UDIMM ECC 2400MHz (SP300899)

I tried 3 combos in each case. dim1, dim2 and dim1 & 2 for each memory type.
The samsung had exactly the same spec as the offical hynix tested one

But the intel specs for the CPUs and their compatible products make it clear the E-2234 is C246. What impact that has on memory i don't know.

I did see that at Intel's ark pages. However, HP also sells servers with C242, E-2234 and ECC memory:
So, either both Supermicro and HP are wrong or it does work.

This may be a basic question, but did you reset the BIOS?
