a question about vlans for those that are using them in freenas 8:

in pfsense (freebsd as well), you simply select an interface and configure the vlans and away you go.
for some reason this isn't quite as straight forward in freenas. it looks to me that you have to configure the interface to have an ip before you can configure vlans.
the first interface configured is the only one that you can get active directory configured from also.

now, if you go over to the pfsense forums, it's standard practice not to have ip's configured on the parent interface if using vlans.
so the question is..... is anybody using vlans on freenas without having an ip configured on the parent interface?
