Hello,

I just upgraded my FreeNAS 8.0.4 to 8.3.0. Everything went fine and my system is up and running.

Until now I have one issue:
I am unable to login to my FreeNAS FTP server without SSL/TLS.

When activating SSL/TLS on my FreeNAS box and connecting to ftps://freenas-box I am able to connect but it is terrible slow --> ~ 800kB/s over Gb/s-Ethernet. (With 8.0.4 I had ~98MB/s) Even directory listing now takes ages.

When activating the checkbox "Enable SSL/TLS" in my FreeNAS config and try to connect without SSL/TLS I receive an error saying that SSL/TLS is required.
With 8.0.4 I was able to connect to my box with or without SSL/TLS - it was optional - even with this checkbox checked.

When I uncheck this "Enable SSL/TLS" checkbox and try to connect to my FreeNAS box via FTP - nothing happens.
And these messages appear in the logs:
Code:
Nov 8 08:37:54 file-box notifier: Starting proftpd.
Nov 8 08:37:54 file-box proftpd[5395]: 127.0.0.1 - ProFTPD 1.3.4a (maint) (built Wed Oct 24 2012 08:11:31 UTC) standalone mode STARTUP
Nov 8 08:43:01 file-box proftpd[5402]: 127.0.0.1 (192.168.12.184[192.168.12.184]) - Login timeout exceeded, disconnected

How can restore the original FTP functionality and speed?

Did you try unchecking the box, then toggling off and on FTP service?

I found the solution to one of my problems:
I had to enable a Masquerade IP address for unencrypted FTP to work.

But checking the checkbox "Enable SSL/TLS" sets proftpd to require SSL for auth. In earlier version this was not required but optional.
How can this be returned to optional? I already tried to edit the /etc/rc.d/ix-proftpd file and commented out TLSRequired. But this did not change anything.
