Hi,

I'm looking for something like the TrueNAS Mini X, preferably with some kind of OOB (iLO, DRAC, etc), and I'm in the UK.
I'd also prefer not to build something myself, just buy a finished, certified, working product that I can plug in and go.

What are my options?

cheers,

Chris

UK expat, FreeNAS Mini past owner (fire loss) here: If you don't have A/C at home, I suggest that you go for a bigger format system, larger case with more opportunities for cooling, especially if you might elect to use 7200 rpm drives which generate more heat than the 5400 rpm version that taxed my systems cooling ability (in an air-conditioned office).

@Redcoat - not sure I'm following, was the fire related to or caused by the FreeNAS Mini?
Good Lord, no. Mini filled with water during fire department's efforts on house fire. Just telling you why I am a past, rather than present, Mini owner.

Interestingly enough, HDD's survived...

@Redcoat Hello, I'm in the UK and so far as I know, there are no TrueNAS hardware + support providers here.

If you don't wish to build and configure one, you may be better off getting a Synology or Qnap machine.

Side thoughts:

I was going to suggest getting a Dell mini server such as a Power Edge T140, but they seem to have hardware (called HBA) inside that might not work with TrueNAS. There are no details of the motherboard they use, but if it had more than 6 SATA ports, hard drives could just be plugged into that directly. Then you could get a reliable remote connection going and have a third party remotely configure it for a fee. That might get a bit painful though if you want to plug and go and have little technical experience. Alternatively you could go to somewhere like pcspecialist.co.uk and have them build one to the right spec for TrueNAS and do the same routine.

I hope that helps in someway.
