Salam everyone,
I'm new with freeNAS and I read alot about it and take god idea about it..
My problem is slowness
I have this specification in my FreeNAS..
HP Dual Core 3.4
8 G Ram
1 TB x 3 HDD
and network card with the HP pc.
I configure freenas with ZFS volume. and do the sharing...

the problem is when I try to copy files to my share foder, it is very slow about 200KB/s.
the scenario was Connect FreeNAS to Modem with cable, and my pc to the modem with cable, but very slow,
so I connect my pc direct to the FreeNAS and the same thing...

please help me???

Hi everyone...

I find that the reading speed from FreeNAS is ~ 8 MB/S, thats mean the problem in the writing only....

Did you benchmark local connection with dd? Is your slowest connection 100mb/s or 1000mb/s?

Hi za3tar,

Ssh into your filer and run:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/<poolname>/tmp.000 bs=2048k count=50k

Adjust <poolname> to reflect your pool name & "50k" to the size of the testfile you want (50k makes a 100GB file) . That specific command will write out 100GB of zeros to a file (turn off compression on your pool for valid results) as fast as the system can and should give us an idea of how fast your pool really is. Once the file is written you can read the file back with this command:

dd if=/mnt/<poolname>/tmp.000 of=/dev/null bs=2048k count=50k

FreeNAS includes a tool called "iperf" that will blast data across your network to another box running iperf. Google iperf for instructions, find a client for one of your client boxes & see how fast the network is.

thanks

8MB/s = 64Mb/s, this is 64% of your theoretical maximum connection. turn ssh on in services, then ssh in with an ssh program like putty. username=root, password='password on you webgui'
hope that helps

Hi survive,

I do ssh with putty, and I execute this command:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/AllHDD/Videos/tmp.000 bs=2048k count=50k , depending on my pool.
I find that 1 GB take about 10 min to create it by refresh the folder in explorer.
I think it will take the hole day to create this 100G.

something else, I can't copy or move some files from freenas after I write to it????

you can see this messages in GUI footer:

what is slow? network, disk, system. you want to break your problem into parts and see what your limiting factor is.

Commandline for FreeNAS is freebsd 8.2, which is unix.

Hi Joshua,

I don't know what is slow... when I try to backup some files to Freenas, writing speed about 200KB/s, when I read the files, reading speed is 10MB/s.

when I execute the command you sent it, it seems the slow in the disk writing...

I don't know where is the problem..

thanks..
