I have just done a clean intall of the latest FreeNAS (FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x86 (r11950)). After hours of fighting I still cannot get the transmission to work the way I would like. Actually it doesn't work at all after first system reboot. The message I get from the console is:

http://192.168.1.250/plugins/transmission/_s/treemenu: <urlopen error timed out>

Some details of my setup:

- FreeNAS running from a USB (4GB)
- 2 separate volumes loaded (2HDs with UFS filesystem)
- A bunch of catalogues to be used by transmission set up on the volume called multimedia in the folder Download (contains :finished, incomplete, transmission and watch folders that were used by my former setup on freenas 8.0)
- plugins jail set up on the second volume called Old
- Mount Point configured as follow - destination: /mnt/plugins/pbi/transmission-i386/mnt and source: /mnt/multimedia/Download

I am not gonna describe my initial config linking transmission with Download folder as these settings were reset to default after system reboot and changing them does not change anything (transmission cannot be turned on regardless of these settings). I presume that it has something to do with the way my plugins jail is setup or simply with the fact that I have UFS file system.

According to this thread: http://forums.freenas.org/archive/index.php/t-6894.html it is doable to have plugins jail up and running on UFS albeit not necessarily an easy task... Personally I have followed the procedure as described in this guide: http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Plugins. Plugins Jail assigned to IP 192.168.1.249 and no problems to ping it via putty.

If anyone has any idea how to go around that issue and could explain it for a total noob like me that would be very much appreciated! I can link the screenshots of my settings if that would help, just let me know what you guys need to figure it out!

EDIT: did some tests in shell, there is something weird going on with the jail ip address.

jls command results:

[root@freenas ~]# jls
JID IP Address Hostname Path
1 - jailname /mnt/Old/jail/jailname

It seems like the jail has not been assigned the IP address I have specified in settings (192.168.1.249).

However, when I sent a ping to 192.168.1.249 I got:

[root@freenas ~]# ping -c 5 192.168.1.249
PING 192.168.1.249 (192.168.1.249): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.1.249: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.249: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.249: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.249: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.249: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.038 ms

Any ideas how to explain that?
