Samba/CIFS Shares Remotely

Wow, this is getting extremely frustrating. I tried following the guide but cannot connect via 445 either. I think I'm going to take a break from this and try to go the VPN route instead by installing Open VPN on the DD-WRT following these:

I also have port forwarding on my router set to allow port 445 to hit my FreeNAS box IP.

Did you unforward 445 before you tried to connect? You're not trying to connect to your FreeNAS at this point, only to the router.

You know, that was probably part of the problem. Thanks for your help, but I think that VPN might be the easiest solution and I won't have to mess around with PUTTY.

That does look promising, thanks for posting that. I think I'll add that link to the FAQ. I am curious to hear how it goes.
