I have two FreeNAS servers 9.10-STABLE that are syncing folders, not files.

What are they:
  1. server for family photos: nas-01
  2. server for syncing offsite: nas-02
  3. nas-01 is sharing a windows share to allow me to dump all the family photos on
  4. nas-02 is in a data center and is used as a backup server

What is happening:
  1. I setup an rsync between nas-01 and nas-02
  2. nas-01 is pushing to nas-02
  3. folders are created from nas-01 to nas-02, data seems to be pushed up as the bandwidth tell me something has been pushed
  4. however, using winscp to verify the files have been migrated, I see only empty folders
Question:
  • why are the files on nas-02 not showing from nas-01 in winscp, only empty folders?
Thank you

Sounds like permissions issues, but why on earth wouldn't you be using zfs replication instead of rsync?

I did not do zfs replication because I came across rsync as an option first... With your suggestion, I will look into using zfs replication.

My end goal is to centralize several remote freenas solutions into one large source. Basically several family members with Freenas pushing their backups to the one freenas in the data center. Is the zfs replication still your suggestion?

Issue was resolved via implementing replication.

Thank you
