I would like to request that Sanoid/Syncoid get added to the standard software distribution of Freenas. It is a very capable ZFS replication package written and supported by programmer/sysadmin Jim Salter. Twitter: @jrssnet . see: http://sanoid.net/ . The prerequisites are mostly already baked into Freenas. Please let me know if this is not the correct location to make the request.

The developers don't often visit the forum. You should probably open a feature request here:
https://redmine.ixsystems.com/projects/freenas

Out of curiosity, what is the feature or advantage of this that makes you want it added?

Chris, thanks for the suggestion. I find the syncoid command line very convenient for creating backup scripts. I haven't tried sanoid yet, but I bet it is also very powerful.

I use it as well.
E.g. I run a debian server with OpenNebula for VMs stored on it's local ZVOLs. I use there zfs-auto-snapshot to create periodic snapshots of VMs.
I use synciod to replicate them to local FreeNAS and latter they are replicated from local FreeNAS to remote FreeNAS, again using syncoid.
