Is it possible to reinstall the FreeNAS OS onto a box with good data drives from previous, but no longer properly booting box?

It's an expected attribute of the ZFS file system in FreeNAS that the data drives are "transportable". Assuming that the drives you wish to access are not UFS drives from an early FreeNAS implementation, you should be good to go...

It looks like I may even need to move the drives to a new box.
I understand FreeNAS will correctly self assign the ada#s for each drive, correct?

Yes. They may be different in a new box than on the old one. FreeNAS uses the GPTID to identify disks.
