When I setup my first pool, I didnt set up a dataset since everything was working ok out of the box so to speak.
When I created my second pool, I couldnt copy anything to that pool. After posting a message in the forums, it was suggested that I create a dataset.
That fixed the problem. I wasnt able to find a way to add permissions to the pool or I probably wouldnt have added a dataset.
Since I have one pool with a dataset and one pool without, should I create a dataset on the pool that doesnt have a dataset to make things consistent ?
I have been looking for a best practices document and have asked this question since I didn't find that type of guidance.
Keep in mind that I am the only one using freenas, no worries about having to scale things up at some point.
