Hi

I updated Freenas from one 11.2 to the latest 11.2 one day earlier.

today i reinstalled it from scratch and tried to import again but it still do not work.

I got the same error (unknown 0 B(error)) on FreeNAS-11.2-RELEASE-U1, when 1 device (SSD slog) went down. It was a test zpool so I didn't try to recover it.

You need to submit a bug report and get the development team involved in this.

Please explain more about your system hardware. Why are you using 3 cards? Because one of those cards can control 256 drives. How many srives are supposed to be here?

If your system was working on the previous version of FreeNAS, have you tried to roll it back? This should be one of the first things you think about doing. Maybe even roll it back to 11.1-U4 or U6. The point is to get your pool mounted again so you can access your data. If you do not have a backup then you should start thinking about a backup strategy because at some point in time things will go south and all the redundancy in the world can't keep safe a single computer and group of hard drives. Think electrical storm or flood.

I wish you luck.

ok
here goes

No backup :-(

I have reinstalled Freenas 2 times now after the first crash and it continues to crash
my setup is this

Chassis: Supermicro CSE-846TQ-R1200B
Motherboard: x9dri-ln4f+
Processor: 2 X Intel Xeon E5-2650 V2
DDR3 non ECC but i am going to upgrade to ECC soon
Controller: 3 X LSI 9207-8i
Boot drive: Samsung SSD 128 GB running on onboard sata controller
Network: Chelsio N320E
HDD's,:
8 X 3 TB WD nas drives ZFS2
1 X 8 TB WD nas drive ZFS1
2 X 8TB Ironwolf drives
and 8 more in different sizes

I have disbled 2 onboard gigabit ports, PCI-X ports not in use, seriel ports and the onboard SAS controller.
this i did in the hope that i would avoid IRQ problems.

i got a crash a couple of days ago and lost the test files on the drive
i only have one 8 TB drive attached at the moment
in the IPMI log i see a runtime error from the OS
how do i find the error in freenas los ?

I pulled the log from IPMI

Well if taken at face value, you are missing 5 hard drives. Note the hard drive serial numbers you listed above, figure out which ones are missing, your controller is likely the cause. You said you have three controllers for 8 drives, sounds a bit excessive but that is just me. If that is true then move all 8 drives to the controller that does work and remove the faulty controller. I know I'm being a bit simplistic here but that would be the fast way to restore operation.

Also your system needs to start running smart tests on those drives.

after the first crach i removed all the drives and only attached 3 drives 700gig 1TB and a 6 TB.
i did this because i dont know where the problem is, if it is the controllers, Ram or something else.
i did a fresh install of Freenas and it chrashed again after 2 days i lost all data on the 6TB drive (test files only)

i have a total of
3 X 8TB drives
4 X 2TB drives
8 X 3TB drives
1 X 6TB drive
1 X 1TB drive
1 X 700/750Gig drive
3 X 1 TB drives

the reason i have only 3 drives now when testing is that I want to find the failty hardware before I install all drives again. I dont want to loose any more data

what i have done today is that i removed the 3 X LSI controllers and connected the drives to the onboard SAS and SATA controllers to test if i get the errors again.

also one thing i am wondering about.
does it have anything to do with UEFI or BIOS ?

i checked the logfiles in my BIOS and i got alot of EFI errors

how do i set up a schedule for that ?
Read the user guide, it has a full section on this.

does it have anything to do with UEFI or BIOS ?
Legacy/BIOS version of FreeNAS is likely to be less problematic than UEFI version of the boot loader. I can't say this is your problem.

Have you done any stability testing using MemTest86 or Prime95, or similar programs recently? If not, I'd run these to ensure that your system is rock solid. Also have you tried FreeNAS 11.1-U6? If not then try it out. You could have some kind of incompatibility going on and if that is true then you will need to submit a bug report.

You can't tell us that you have 8 hard drives, provide us data and then tell us that you really have 3 hard drives. Please be clear so we can provide you troubleshooting help without adding confusion. For the rest of this troubleshooting I'd recommend that you leave the LSI controllers removed/disconnected and use just the three test drives that you have. If you are able to make this work for say 2 weeks or longer then move on to the LSI controllers, if you really need them.

Lets go over a few more things you should be doing ro shouldn't be doing while troubleshooting a problem, and I only say this from a over 4 decades of experience, make only one change at a time and then test your system, ensure it's stable before moving forward. This even include little things like making another jail/plugin or any configuration change. Maybe it's stable with a basic setup and you are just sharing via SMB but then when you setup a jail it all fails. But first run the stress tests because right now I have no faith your system is stable until you have run these tests. MemTest86 should run several days, Prime95 should run at least 30 minutes, longer if you like.
