Hi,

8 disk (4 TB) and no more free SATA ports.
(Motherboard ASUS P10S-V/4L, i3-7100, 64 GB RAM)
Free PCI-e x8 and PCI-e x16 slots.

We need add 4 disk 4 TB.
Maybe someone can recommend "budget" card?

I think about this (used):
HP LSI SAS9212-4i 6Gbps PCI-E X8

What do you think about this, is good for FreeNas (is possible to disable hardware RAID)?
Or maybe is something better, but new?

Thanks...

Seems that you can. See this post. That said, the IBM M1015 is cheap - you can get them on eBay for under US$30. Unless you need 4 x 4 SATA ports - 16 drives, the M1015 has 2 SFF connectors, or 2 x 4 drives - (each of the Mini-SAS internal connectors, SFF-8087, can handle 4 SATA/SAS drives). Make sure you get the right breakout cables.

One more thing: Take a good review of the RAIDZ documentation and threads. The larger the drives the more time it will take to rebuild (resilver in ZFS speak) an array!

IBM M1015 - work "out of box" or i need to flash them? Can i just disable Hardware Raid?
HP LSI SAS9212 - it should be flashed (troubles?)

What do you think about cheap PCI-e card? On Amazon or Ebay is a lot of this card: Crest, Ziyituod, QNINE, etc.)
What do you think about this? Without flashing and no RAID.

Is better buy new cheap card or better used IBM/HP?

@Newfoundland.Republic
i know, RAIDZ will be long, long, long... rebuild

I found something like this on amazon: SAS9211-8I 8PORT Int 6GB
have good opinion and can be used with FreeNAS
with cables will be 100$

Maybe someone use this card? Any experiences?

Buy the used IBM/HP/DELL card. A "brand new" card from Amazon, especially the cheap ones, are likely to be third-shift or counterfeit.

Search for the IBM M1015, Dell PERC H200, Dell PERC H310, or HP H220 cards on eBay. They crossflash to the LSI 9211-8i (the HP becomes the 9207-8i which is slightly newer) and are the best-tested cards for FreeBSD by orders of magnitude.

You need to flash it to IT mode.

Dell PERC H200 - found
Dell PERC H310 - found
HP H220 - found and looks like new

I should flash all of them to LSI firmware IT mode and i can use it in FreeNAS Box?
im little scare...

but look's like flash DELL card is easier: Dell H200 / H310
Which version of LSI should be used - P20 or P14.

additional thread was solved, Dell H310 flashed and FreeNas see all disk.

BTW - funny story:
i move all hardware to new, biggest box.
Connect everything and fans works, lights on motherboard ok, but black screen and no beep's - nothing happened.
OMG, WTF - i ruined motherboard...
solution is strange (i found this on hardware forum - change CMOS Battery, i can't believe, what CMOS Battery?) => but its true
replace CMOS battery and everything works great!
For children and grandchildren: replace CMOS Battery before trash your motherboard ;)
Motherboard: Asus Server Board P10S-V/4L
