Not sure what the static build is, but the latest ffmpeg can be found in the package repository for freebsd. If you want to install it in your freebsd jail just..
Code:
pkg_add -r ffmpeg

I believe, but it will download alot of stuff...

The version you propose is too old for new features of Serviio v1.0.1

Here is the version which is in the repository:

FFmpeg version 0.6.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers
built on Jan 16 2011 23:30:21 with gcc 4.2.1 20070719 [FreeBSD]

This version does not support some of the new options that are used by new version of Serviio.

On the ffmpeg.org, the newest public version is 0.11.1.

Somewhere in the forum someone else asked about updating FFmpeg to make it work with Serviio(and I think the intent was to add support for .mkv). The short answer was "it's going to take ALOT of work to make it work". There was some discussion as to how much work was needed and that this is an issue that is much more than just FreeNAS as the hardcore Serviio crowd would like to see FFmpeg updated.

So good luck to you.

Go download the source and statically compile it in a FreeBSD VM. If it works like you want then you can supply it to the rest of us.

The version supplied with my Serviio plugin is 7.13. The Plugin jail is based on FreeBSD 8.0, the 0.11 FreeBSD port Makefile does not work when compiling plugins on this base. I explained this in another thread. I don't have time to hack the Makefile so it works in the 8.0 build environment, though it is possible.

Serviio v1.01 hasn't been ported to FreeBSD yet either and Serviio has already gone from 1.0 to 1.01, it takes the port maintainer time to implement and test the changes and then it needs to be approved. All these things take TIME.... Be happy there is a Serviio plugin, it is not a simple thing to do!

There is another port for the 0.11 release of ffmpeg: multimedia/ffmpeg-011. I don't know if it's in the ports tree that FreeNAS uses though.
