I just found this ASCII file called md_size in /mnt.
I can't figure out what its purpose is and therefore whether it's safe to delete.
Does anybody know?
Thanks.
Code:
root@freenas:/mnt# ls -l md_size
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 5 May 11 18:19 md_size
root@freenas:/mnt# file md_size
md_size: ASCII text
root@freenas:/mnt# cat md_size
8192

It's been a while since I've been on the forum, but it appears to be the response has been less than professional. I guess some things really never change.

I don't think the file has any real significance. You may delete it. I believe it's actually a remnant of the NanoBSD kernel build process that FreeNAS used to run. FreeNAS now runs a full (but stripped down) kernel.

Edit: as somebody pointed out in the IRC.. its a way to request more space in ram for your tmpfs.

Thank you for your answer @m0nkey_, and I agree, the original response was unprofessional and unnecessary. I've addressed this directly and cleaned this thread because there were posts that were argumentative and straying off-topic. If you see other posts like this please do not hesitate to report them. I handle all the reports about moderation and moderators personally.

Thanks!
