Hello,

I now have 3 disks in front of me but I know I will have 4 soon.
Is it possible to create a pool RAID Z1 already with 4 disks taking the risk to loose all my data now on my 3 disks?
A bit like if you were adding already to the pool a virtual (non yet existing) disk.
Or assuming I start a pool with a broken drive already....

Thanks

Thanks again Samuel!
I have a question regarding the first line on the guide!!!
The example below will create a RAIDZ1 pool on da18 and da19 (both 2 TB disks), and a 2 TB sparse file.
As you know a 2T disk is not really 2Tb if I am not mistaken. Once formated and depending on the format, it is less (there is always around 10% loss)...
So should I take the size written on the disk, or the size once formatted. To discover this size precisely, how could I do?

My 10Tb are showing 9.1 in Freenas....

You'll want the physical size.

Hello,
Following the guide above, I am having an error saying that the
gpart:geom 'da2' File exists
In Da2 used to be another drive that I installed temporary to backup some data.
Now this drive is outside my NAS and I do not want to lose its data.
If I destroy da2 will I loose the data on the drive outside the NAS when I put it back on later on another sata cable ...
Or does it has to be on the same cable as it is attached to this da2??
Can I destroy da2 without loosing data?
Thanks

Be very careful... the disk label assignments are not permanent for that disk and can change at any time without notice.

You need to pay attention to the GPTID (shown in glabel status) if you want to talk about a specific disk... also you could use the serial number shown in the disks list under storage in the GUI, which can be checked with smartctl -a /dev/da2 at the CLI.

If the disk currently assigned the label da2 is one you don't care about the contents of, destroy it without concern.
