Background
- FreeNAS 9.10
- one vol create dataset (iSCSI-1500G)
- use this vol as iSCSI LUN, create portal, create target, then create extent

Help Needed
- when create extent, you can select device or file. Remember in the past, when select device, it is easy to get it setup. However it doesn't show a drop down this time.
- when select file, expand /mnt/vol/dataset, however no file there, it doesn't allow me to continue.
- any documents explain device vs. file in the simple way.

Thanks,

You'll want to use a device based extent. To get that, you first need to create a Zvol on the storage tab in the FreeNAS GUI.

Under iSCSI vol, I have another iSCCI vol and then the zvol. Is that correct?

Yes, that would be correct.
