hp microserver n40l and wifi

I am new to all of this and am looking to get a HP N40L and us a usb flash drive to run freenas. I would like to put this server in the loft, well away from the pc etc. that way, if the pc gets stolen, i should still have backups of all my hard drives. for this to work, it needs to connect wirelessly (not much point if thieves can see a network cable!). I have a broadband modem / router with wifi. can i purchase a wifi dongle and put it in the n40l? would any software installation need to be done wrt the dongle?what sort of speed limitations would there be? is this viable or should it really be wired?
