Hello!

I want to setup a direct connection between my computer and FreeNAS server without a router in between. I hooked up an ethernet cable to a gigabit port on both my server and computer. I also assigned the server a static IP, but I can't access the WebGUI from my computer.

What do I need to do? Using Windows7 by the way.

Thanks!!

You may be able to get away with a straight ethernet cable, but you may also need a crossover cable.

Thanks for the replies, but no luck! Could it be something on the Windows 7 side? Do I need to assign the port on my computer an IP, default gateway, and subnet mask?

basic networking.

your computer needs an IP address/subnet mask on the port that is directly connected.
