I just purchase 4 HGST 8TB drives on sale at newegg and 3 out of the four are not being picked up and the fourth responds but it took a while to detect. I am seriously considering returning them all, my ST8000NM0055 had no problems in the same bays and my constellation ES.2 and ES.3 2TB were in the same bays backing up the server the previous day. I've tried moving the 3 unresponsive drives to different bays with zero improvement. Including the one bay that did detect the HGST all three still are unresponsive and the one that worked responds in every slot I placed it..... eventually. I'll try the three unresponsive ones in another machine to see if they even spin up after work today.

The fourth drive currently DA6 is running a smart long test which claimed it would take 1083 minutes, any bright ideas? or should I cut my losses and return them and get drives I know work in my system?

You said that you were not having any problems with the Seagate drives, so I would stay with them. I have about 40 Seagate drives running in my servers, and have had no problems with them.

Nothing at the moment I'll likely procure more of the ST8000NM0055 closer to when the drives are required, the HGST's were just so nicely priced I had to try them out. I will try HGST again someday but it will be the Ultrastar's next time.
