Greetings everyone.

i'm wondering, if it's possible to change the actual OS (Lenovo LifeLine px4-4.1.414.34909), to FreeNAS.

i actual upgraded the NAS chassis with 8GB of RAM, and the performance on the linux (yes it's debian based os) is lame (poorly i can copy files with rsync with 30Mbps), and i need more speed for copying files from one server to the NAS.

it will be possible to upgrade the OS ?

hope someone could point to some document to do that.

UPDATE :!

PLEASE ADD HOW DO YOU INSTALL IT ANOTHER OS on this device, !!! many want to know... thanks in advance

best regards.

No, it's not possible to install FreeNAS on this. The PX4-300d runs a 32-bit Marvel ARMADA CPU, which uses the ARM instruction set, not the 64-bit x86_64 instruction set FreeBSD supports.

this is not true, the PX4 uses Atom D525 dual core with HT, the IX4-200 uses armada.

here you got the answer at the PX4-300d from SSH

i put 8Gigs of ram on each nas, so i put my 2 cents that it would run smooth any BSD or Linux OS, currently has debian ( from lenovo stripped version)

I stand corrected. However, even after installing FreeNAS, you won't see much performance improvement over the Debian installation. The D525 CPU will limit your performance.

i woud like network stability instead performace, currently the chassis has 2 gig ethernet interfaces and i had bonded with PaGP, with cisco switches, and i can't say it work, mostly all the data transfer has capped and shunned, and had too many speed mismatch from network cards, from the side of the cisco switch, from the chassis, never got a single warning.

i changed cables, switches and many other stuff, and always happen the same, the network BW, it's always limited by 80% of one interface, using SMB, NFS or iSCSI. so if i can get 1000Mbps with both interfaces i'll be happy.

at the max transfer speed from the chassis i use to had at 30%cpu usage max 40%, so i guess i could grab more power and hopefully more stability from the network perspective

What NIC driver shows up in ifconfig -a? FreeNAS has a much smaller supported set of NIC drivers than Debian, and FreeNAS only supports LACP bonding, not PagP.

OK, that's the Realtek 8168, which would use the re driver in FreeBSD. Unfortunately, the FreeBSD re driver is junk, and has even worse stability and performance than the Linux driver.

I took my unit apart today and I was able to login into bios using a USB to serial adapter plug into the serial consol of the PX4-300D. I was able to boot from a USB running OPNsense and any other Linux that support serial installation. Pretty cool little device. It has 2 pci-e ports and 2 slots for ram PC3. Using Putty I was able to view the whole process of booting and accessing the bios in real time. I'm not sure if FreeNas/Truenas will ran on the device but will keep you posted.
