Hi,

been a user of FreeNAS for a few years now. I run it in a VM for file storage only. I love it, however, I'm noticing it's getting more and more features added I have no intention of using. My guess is that there are likely others like me. Stuff like docker, bhyve, etc. I don't mind the jails because they're essentially 0 overhead.

Has iXSystems ever floated the idea of having a "lite" version of FreeNAS, with just the file storage and networking components?

I'd get my hands dirty and turn services off manually, but from what I understand OS alterations are not persistent... Could I perhaps turn services off using system tuning variables in the WebUI?

To be entirely clear:

Any changes you make ***IN GUI SETTINGS*** are completely persistent. You turn services on and off there. Any service you turn off in the Services menu is literally disabled, and does not consume resources, and that setting persists.
