Hello Everyone,

I've had FreeNas up and running without issues since pre 11 and have not had any issues until upgrading to 11.3 Stable and installing new drives.
11.1 U3 boots fine with all drives, but errors on the because of the upgrade and changes to the share

On re-boot my system hangs on BTX Loader when booting with 11.3-U3.2 . (See attached image)

The only work-around that will get me up and running is to remove all the hot-swap drives that are used by FreeNas and only have the single SSD boot drive. Once the system starts loading FreeBSD, I can put the drives in, and all works as before. As long as there are less than 4 drives seen by the BIOS, the system will boot into 11.3.

I have tried all of the "fixes" I have read on the site. (And on others with FreeBSD) I've tried turning on raid, I'm on the latest BIOS (2005 LOL), no USB, etc, etc.

This seems like an issue in the code from 11.1 to 11.3. I am a complete novice with FreeBSD, so if you need any more information, please ask.

Thanks!!

  • In FreeNAS 11.1, the boot loader was Grub
  • Since FreeNAS 11.2 the boot loader is BTX
Unlike BTX, Grub is compatible with far more computers.
There is no solution yet, except staying with FreeNAS 11.1u7, which is the last version that comes with Grub.
