Hi guys,

I am running freenas for a several weeks now and I love it.
Unfortunately FreeNAS-11.3-RC2 is making my life miserable by having 100% cpu utilization once a while.
I only have one jail (nextcloud) but when 100% util happens (when I am not using my system at all) it totally freezes and isn't responsive.
fortunately it's running on a hypervisor and I at least am able to kill the VM.

my server setup:
Proxmox hypervisor on dual Xeon e5-2680 V2 with 256GB ECC RAM.

FreeNAS:
- 1 socket with 4 cores @2.80Ghz (also tried 6 and 8 cores both in single and dual socket mode)
- 64GB RAM
- 4x 1TB HDD - SCSI
- 2x 500GB HDD - SCSI
- 2x SSD - SCSI
- virtio 10GBe virtual LAN

Thanks in comon!

What if that doesn't work?

I got this messages in the terminal:

EDIT:
I finished updating, I'll try to run it and see if the problem will re-occur.

I have 11.2-u5 and a 11.3-nightly/rc1/rc2 in proxmox and havnot spotted the same issue.

Can you ssh in when at 100% and see wat is eating te CPU?

I can't, it's literally not reacting to anything.
Proxmox uses novnc to emulate ssh which is kind of the same. To be sure I tried to ssh into it, not working :(

Hmmm.... I wonder if there is an issue with SMART? Anyone else see this type of behaviour? Is it dependent upon some type of hardware?

I don't know. What I do know is that disabling resolved the issue
That does not seem like an acceptable "fix".

You should file a bug ticket.

edit:
What's your promox configuration like?
I expected a passthrough HBA - but did not find one in your OP.

This may be shenanigans beyond the scope of freenas.

@Dice I think you might be right...
This is my 11.2-u5, but my test VM of 11.3 (on an almost identical box and config)

I have full drive passthrough instead of HBA because the HBA houses more drives which aren't linked to freenas.
As for @blueether, he has a HBA directly connected to freenas
One note for you tho; you might want to change the network device from Intel E1000 to virtio.

Intel E1000 has a theoretical maximum speed of 1Gbit and often doesn't get those speeds
where virtio has a theoretical maximum speed of 10Gbit which has more chance of reaching the whished for speeds.
Changing from E1000 to virtio increased my speed from 30MB/s to 140 MB/s
