TrueNAS 12.0 is motoring towards nightlies and then beta, and that’s exciting.
I’ve read that it’s based on FreeBSD 12.0, and that changing FreeBSD releases is a non-trivial undertaking. FreeBSD 12.0 went EOL on 2/29/2020.
I am wondering how this will play with CORE and plugin support. I’m assuming we will be in a situation similar to where 11.2 is now: Plugins and jails will work, and will be based on a FreeBSD version the pkg system no longer supports. I moved to 11.3, so I don’t know how well this approach works in 11.2. I’m a bit nervous about how jails will fare in 12.0.
What’s the planned timeline to get to FreeBSD 12.1 / TrueNAS 12.1? I realize it’s a little silly to ask about that when 12.0 isn’t even out: I ask because I’d prefer to be on a version of FreeBSD that’s supported.
Which I have in 11.3. Staying on that release until 12.1 is out is always an option.
