Hello,
I am dropping a freeNAS at a colo facility for offsite storage.

any suggestions for Firewall setup? 72 used to have firewall options, looks like that's not the case on 8.2.0

is there a plugin etc. or something I can do in the OS or firewall?

thanks

A plugin firewall would only protect the jail unless I'm somehow very confused.

I don't believe any firewall features really exist for FreeNAS. Someone asked about this months ago and had to find an alternate solution.

That's really strange, I'm certain I replied to this earlier...

You can do it, but it'll be a custom hack job. You need to get the ipfw kernel module installed, then load and configure it during the boot process. FreeNAS is essentially FreeBSD-minus-lots-of-stuff so adding bits back is usually not too rough.

That said, self-protection is something every device should be capable of, and with the hardware requirements spec'd for FreeNAS, there probably isn't a compelling reason that the kernel module and maybe a GUI option to load some static rules can't be included in future builds. Possibly a feature request.
