Hi All,

Host based firewalls to protect the FreeNAS host from the LAN devices makes sense, I do not trust the LAN at any company. Why allow all users and all subnets to try to login to my FreeNAS box over port 22? Why do I want laptop users that are infected trying to infect my samba server running on FreeNAS? In many places the Storage guys do not have access to real firewall's between subnets.

This would even protect our Windows users that are off site at another office trying to download a large file from the FreeNAS box and complaining that if you would have had a windows server it would not be slow...

I could see a place where a management IP/subnet is added and all traffic is blocked. Then enable just the traffic you need.

Thanks,
Joe

We've discussed why this isn't really a good idea before.
