I can't access web gui from outside, even though I portforwared the port
in the admin page for freenas.

Other ports forward just fine through the router.

freenas 8.0.4
windows 7 x64
router dd-wrt

update: I got it working by changing the port for http access in the settings page for freenas and doing the correct port forwarding on the router.
I also use a dynamic domain and it's working fine.

same here...

I've been trying the same thing for days. Tried multiple different ports (80, 88, 8080, 888, 443....) nothing works. I know my router is set up properly because I set up another web server and simply changed the IP in my router to point to the web server instead of my FreeNAS box, and it's interface came right up. I am quickly realizing nothing works on my FreeNAS box. My friends like to remind me that's what you get with open source stuff. It doesn't help either, that FreeNAS's documentation on all their services it provides, is as ambiguous as can be. !@#$%^&*

I honestly don't remember exactly what I did but I know that I'm using a dynamic domain name, that points the IP number that I need for the freenas server and a port. I think I changed the port number on the freenas configuration. So my settings page looks like this http://d.pr/i/2Tdy

I port forwarded that port in my router and then in the browser i use the domain:port/ address and it works.

What do you mean by "is there such a thing as http access?"
I've had a few problems port forwarding with ddwrt or pfsense as my router but always get it to work in the end. One this to test is checking if the port is listening for connections from a different network (maybe tether your laptop to your 3g phone and test with nmap). If it works from a different network but not your own your may need to look into mirroring your port forwards.

If other port forwards you setup work fine then FreeNAS shouldn't be any different.

When I wrote this thread, I didn't see the page to change the ports and stuff for http access. I couldnt' figure it out. Eventually I did and it started working. I think I just changed the port for freenas. It was probably conflicting with another service on the same server and I couldn't get access because of that. Yes you are right.
