I just updated from 11.2 U7 to 11.3 U1. After the update I get the error

Cannot find the pool label for 'freenas-boot'
Mounting from zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/11.3-u1 failed with error 5.

I do boot from a USB drive. I found this article that looks like it would fix my issue: https://www.ixsystems.com/community/threads/workaround-semi-fix-for-mountroot-issues-with-9-3.26071/

The problem I am having is that, the article was written for FreeNAS 9.3, FreeNAS 11.3 or 11.2 do not have the same menu system and I am at a loss as to how I load GRUB so I can edit my Tunables without the GUI. Can anyone tell me how to go about editing the Tunables without before booting into FreeNAS?

FreeNAS isn't using GRUB anymore.

Seems most likely that your USB stick has died.

Also, take a look here https://www.ixsystems.com/community...s-boot-root-default-fails-with-error-5.80709/

I had seen that post already, which is one of the reasons that I want to edit my tuneables. It seems it has to do with USB being slow, the change I want to make is adding a boot delay so the USB drive can completely initialize.

If FreeNAS isn't using GRUB anymore, is there a different way to edit tunables without going through the web gui?

I ended up finding an old SSD and reinstalling Freenas and loading my backup config. Up and running again without a USB boot drive.

Hey, I know this is old but I got the same error.
Somehow the SATA mode in my BIOS got set to RAID instead of AHCI. I switched it back and everything resumed working perfectly.

Hope this helps somebody!
