i have a BB storage pod v1.0 (i think), retro fitted with a supermicro

it's got the 3 RocketRaid cards and the 9 (5 drive per) SATA expanders.

can i run FreeNAS on it, even tho those cards are not really HBAs?

$dayjob is in the process of cycling out a number of old systems built on the backblaze pod 1.0 and 2.0 spec. They ran for a long time with no issues, but we used LSI SATA cards in place of the cards BB used. The physical hardware and cabling is fine. but you'll probably regret it if you try to run on SATA controllers that aren't LSI or their derivatives.
