I'd like to backup a "Windows 7 Home Premium" PC to Freenas over the network using the built in "Windows Backup and Restore" program.

I thought I could back up to an iscsi share but Windows Backup fails with: Error: Check your backup. The last backup did not complete succesfully. The device is not ready. Error Code: 0x80070015

I also tried backing up to a VHD file on a SMB share. But the VHD doesn't reattach on reboot. And automation scripts require a windows login with username and password on boot which I'd rather not have to do.

Is there an easier way?

Thanks, I'm checking it out now..

Couple questions I have: Does Veeam use the Volume Shadow Copy Service? So I can do a backup in the background while I'm using the computer? Does it do file level or block level? Does it do incremental or differential backups?

VSS = Yes
Backups are incremental after a full backup.

+1 for Veeam Agent - Just make sure that you make up recovery media in case you need to do a bare metal restore.
