Hi

I just installed Freenas with 4x 3TB disks and 2x 256 for cache but I only see 5TB from the 4x 3TB. is this normal?

Thank you,
Luis

Well, for your RaidZ2 (2 parity drive) pool that usable capacity looks correct. A couple of things to remember - drives are sold with capacities in TB, we are reporting based on TiB - and we are also seeing the effect of the inclusion of a 20% overhead (above 80% capacity performance is affected, above 95% pool may become impossible to use).

Use the calculator at https://wintelguy.com/zfs-calc.pl to check the numbers for yourself.

How can I change this to single party, I understand sibel party is like Raid 5, correct?
RAIDZ1 is single parity (you selected RAIDZ2, so you got double parity).

You can't change the RAIDZ type of an existing pool, so backup data, destroy pool, create new pool, restore data to new pool.

RAIDZ1 is not recommended by this forum on drives larger than 1TB, so you would be taking a risk that others here will say is too great if you do make the changes.

Also, you're probably wasting at least one of your "cache" drives, maybe both if you don't have enough RAM (you didn't tell us your system specs, so I'm just guessing on that one... 8GB or anything below 64GB and L2ARC is a waste).
