Hardware Recommendations Guide

Hardware Recommendations Guide Rev 2a) 2021-01-24

After a long wait for Half-Life 3 Revision 2 of the Hardware Recommendations Guide, it is finally here.

Full disclosure: It's not as polished as I'd like, but it just needs to finally be out there so that I can gather feedback to better work on it.

Old recommendations, such as Haswell stuff, have been replaced with Coffee Lake for now. The whole motherboard and CPU segment could use more research, but I'll defer that for a while and update the quick guide first.
This isn't actually an update. I got fed up of people saying "oh, this page is so old, are there newer recommendations?" .

This is still the most current document and there really isn't much news. I will update it "soon", but anyone expecting awesome new deals or spectacularly-improved hardware is going to be disappointed.
Revision 1 e) is a very small update. Only the introduction has seen any changes, to reflect Corral's demise and the upcoming FreeNAS 11.
Due to forum issues, the original upload of Revision 1d) was borked. This update is intended to fix that. The document itself remains at Revision 1d). The changelog is as before:

Revision 1 d) is a minor update to the Hardware Recommendations Guide and contains the following changes:

  • Added section on power connector ratings and Y-cables
  • Additional minor clarifications

This is a small update to the guide. Major changes include:
  • Added networking hardware section
  • Fixed some occasional odd phrasings
  • Clarified SLOG power protection requirements
  • Clarified RAM sizing
This is a small update to the original release. It fixes a few typos and copy-paste errors, slightly expands some sections and adds more explicit warnings against SATA port multipliers.
