How did EMC or Netapp implement this? Don’t they use samba too?

without resilience it wouldn’t work in smb2 mode too, right?
No they do not use samba, they have written their own server.

I smell GPL violations ...
No. There are almost certainly no violations there. Microsoft has documented the SMB protocol exceptionally well and actively helps third parties with developing their own SMB implementations (not writing code, but rather providing tools, dochelp, and interop events).

Thx for the heads up.

Any plans at iXsystems to implement something to support Hyper-V on the commercial products? We're also thinking about buying TrueNAS

You can present iSCSI LUNs to Hyper-V. iSCSI performance in TrueNAS is very good with an appropriate hardware and software configuration.

Hey there! If you're interested in taking a look at some TrueNAS configurations, feel free to send me a PM and I'll get you passed along to the appropriate resource.

Hey, do you have more information or links to example hardware configs?
I think iSCSI without RDMA doesn't get the same performance as SMB Multichannel with RDMA.
Any iSER plans withs TrueNAS/FreeNAS ?
The downside is: iSCSI is very clunky/chunky to handle with many cluster nodes compared to simple CIFS shares. No SMIS Provider yet, right? Any plans here?

Best regards, Flo.

Unfortunately this is still not possible with Samba.
We have to go for legacy stuff like iSCSI without RDMA, etc

Ah, this is such a bummer. Looking at SMB 3.0 compatibility, I just assumed TrueNAS would support resiliency.

Hoping to see this implemented in the future!
