Howdy folks! You may have noticed there's a Plex banner above the content on the community now. From now on I'll be curating any content that appears there so that irrelevant ads won't be displayed. There may be more banners that rotate with the Plex one in the near future but they will be relevant to computers, software, hardware, etc. Google Ads have been completely removed.

Yay! Best compromise ever! :D

I'll happily put iX on the whitelisted sites for that. Good job knowing the audience!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. This was definitely an issue for users without an adblocker. As previously noted, I occasionally visit here on one of our engineering laptops to look up some bit of material, and discovered a deceptive "log in here" ad one morning about a month ago, as I'm sure you saw in the moderator's forum. Interestingly I can't seem to pull up the attached image on that now, one reason I prefer not to be uploading things to the forum... it still seems to have odd permissions problems.

There are also emoji responses now apparently. Bet you guys didn't see that one coming. It's a Xenforo feature not me! haha.

It's okay, you can own up to it. ;-)

I will carry on using Adblock Plus (adds) and Malwarebytes (adds, trackers, malware, ...). The former because I find advertisements distracting and consume screen space, the latter because I hate being tracked. Otherwise I like the update

I figured there would be a lot of people that still felt that way! Regardless the Google Ads were really bad. Glad we found a better solution!

You are very welcome. Honestly, I'd own up to it if it were me! Or would I.......

I have the easy answer for all these ads : PI-Hole
No matter where they are from, no matter where I am thanks to my always On VPN that routes everything through my own infrastructure

Your always-on VPN? I didn't know that ${majorisp} was your own infrastructure... yes, sorry, I peeked at your posting IP address, curious. Just so you know, you're coming from residential IP space from a ${majorisp}.

I'm tempted to go on a tangent about VPN services but I don't want to detract from the good news @JoshDW19 is sharing.

The way I read it, he's using an always-on VPN when away from home in order to connect back to his own home-based infrastructure and route all of his traffic through the PiHole. In addition to blocking ads, this lets you use public WiFi without worrying about some Leet Script Kiddie trying to MITM you and constantly throwing up SSL warnings.

Hey jgreco,

Indeed, I do everything from that residential IP hosted by that provider. I replaced their router with my own pfSense box. I configured my IOS devices as Supervised, so that let me install an AlwaysOn VPN policy in both of them (iPad and iPhone). Everything is routed back home over an IKEv2 IPSec VPN. I also host my own private cloud using Nextcloud and FreeNAS in my infrastructure. My place is primary site (servers Atlas and Tanatos) and my father's place is secondary (Hades).

Interesting coincidence, my firewall is named Atlas as well. It is also running pfSense and I occasionally VPN to it from my Iphone.
I could never get tethered devices to work through the VPN, otherwise it's great.

Mobile template is broken, could you please take a look on it. There is big blank space. At first i thought pageload got stuck but after third refresh i tried to scroll down and hey, the threadlist/posts are there. See the attached screens. Thanks!

@cobrakiller58 Opera 54.1.2672.49808

So it seems to be a Opera browser issue. There is some "Ad blocking" feature which messes it up.

This thing...

I am not familiar with the Opera browser but is there an option for the ad blocker to use place-holders? Perhaps that would solve it with minor clutter, or that is where the mistake resides.

Hmm. I suppose there may be a 'mobile' specific template, although I would need to search for it. I believe that generally though, the CSS uses the quality 'flex' and may also have various adjustments for detected screen/viewport size. Some things are a little different in Ganz großes Kino -dark but I suspect that since Opera is partly to blame the result could be identical or near enough to be.

The native mobile view is fine. I will disable the adblock feature while browsing the forum. Also i've reported the bug to Opera so hopefully they will fix it soon. It might be not related to Xenforo but to the recent Opera update.
